If there is one thing true of Texas weather, it's that you can never really know what's coming, despite what the weather channel app on your phone may tell you. So when we drove to South Austin to meet sweet Addison and her parents on a day that was forecasted to be sunny and beautiful, the surprise of a cold windy, overcast morning was, well, not super surprising. This is Texas.
Luckily, the day brought a much more welcome surprise. On a windy field in Austin, we got to witness beauty. And I'm not talking about precious Addison and her gorgeous big blue eyes, although omigosh! No, I'm talking about the sweet way this family loved each other. From the way Evan would softly brush stray hairs back from Erin's face to how they would cuddle Addison close to them to keep her warm, they were constantly exuding a sweet, understated love–the kind you know is intricately woven into the core of their family. They were joyful, gracious and laid back, content with just being together. Finding people like that is rare and if the world is right, and raising a family is even less predictable than Texas weather, then Addison is especially blessed to be taken on that journey by loving parents who know who to navigate hazy days with joy.
She is just gorgeous!
I just love this one.

WWW - Scarves
There's a hole in my bedroom wall where a hook used to hang. At some point I thought it'd be a good idea to keep my scarves hanging up to add a little extra color to the room. It worked great until my obsession addiction developed.
Now there's a hole in my wall. Next time I'll have to find a stud (I mean the wall kind).
I love scarves. I love how cozy a scarf feels around my neck. I love the extra soft fabric near my face. And I love what adding a scarf does to an outfit. I just love them.
In dressing for a photoshoot it's really valuable to add accessories. Whether a fun necklace, a chunky bracelet or a great scarf...adding accessories can turn an outfit into a whole new creation. Also, since scarves are appropriate no matter the season these days, it's not a bad idea to keep your collection stocked.
So this week for What to Wear Wednesday, I've decided to make some great scarf recommendations.
Undoubtedly you can find some pretty pricey scarves out there, but I wanted you to see that there are fabulous accessories available to you at little cost. The following are from one of these shops: Delia's, Topshop, Madewell, Urban Outfitters, Ruche, or Forever21.
ENJOY!!

And even babies benefit! We may or may not have been known to wrap a newborn in a great scarf for a photoshoot!
Do you have any favorite scarf stops you'd recommend. Let me know in the comments. I'm always on the lookout!

WWW - Little Family
This little family makes me want to have a little family so that I can dress them and name them really cute stuff. Until then, I have a blog for such things.
This What to Wear Wednesday post is for the family that is squeezing in some photos before their new baby boy becomes a toddler. Seth, Elizabeth (oh no, their names rhyme) and baby Jonah will look fabulous in these spring colors. Whether their shoot is in a perfectly lit field or right in their living room, these outfits should blend just right.
And because this post is about what to wear, I want to recommend a fashion blog that I've grown to love. If you spend much time on the world wide web blogstalking you may have already heard of her.
Kendi Everyday gives awesome affordable everyday outfit ideas. She even features a Closet Challenge called the 30 for 30 Remix that'll help you to stretch your wardrobe further than you ever thought possible. Check her out.
Let me know what you think about these outfits (and Kendi Everyday) in the comments section. I'd love to hear your suggestions (besides Seth's need to fasten his pants) as well.

editing mix | issue 3
Oh how I have needed music lately! Before I left town to see my sweet nephews in Arizona I spent some late nights editing and had it not been for Grooveshark putting music at my fingertips, I'm not sure I would have been able to keep my eyes open. Here are the albums that did the trick:
Barton Hollow by The Civil Wars Music for the morning when I still had lots of energy |
Interventions and Lullabies by The Format One of my favorite pick-me-up albums for when I start to drag |
For Lack of a Better Name by Deadmau5 Generally techno is not my thing but it really saved me when I was totally drained |
Any good music recommendations? I'm always looking...

lauren and kory | mound engagement photography
Heading down the back dirt roads of Texas toward Mound, I was filled with a sense of eager anticipation. There are few things I enjoy more than driving across the landscape of Texas, watching fields of cattle pass by with the wind gently whipping back and forth through the windows and the warm sun beaming across the dash. We were following Lauren and Kory to a place that I knew was very special to them. Kory's family had been in Mound for generations, establishing the Mound post office and serving as an integral part of the town's tiny population for years. We spent the afternoon on the family ranch and it was easy to see why Mound was so dear to their hearts.
It was also easy to see that Lauren and Kory are perfect for each other. There are obvious things that make them compatible, they're both brilliant, playful, down to earth, dog lovers, but that's not what I'm talking about. Lauren and Kory have something much more special and intangible. When they're together, they radiate. They can't get within two feet of each other without smiling. They bring out life in one another. The warmth and joy between them is so strong you can't be near them without feeling it too. They're so very blessed to have each other.
We loved getting to know you two and cannot wait for your wedding!

We may have to ban dogs this adorable from coming on shoots, because otherwise I am going to end up buying a puppy.
Lauren, you are GORGEOUS!
Not sure what it is, but I just love this one.

WWW - What to Wear Wednesday | Spring Break Family Edition
Alright alright...so I missed week two of WWW. I suppose this might say something about my consistency - that or my busy schedule. :)
But here we are at what to wear on this fabulous March Wednesday.
I thought I'd make this edition an ode to Spring Break since that's what is going on with most of the families around these parts this week. So we're going with warm weather clothes and brights!!
If you know me at all you know that I love everything color! Bright colors make me happy, so I made The Thomas Family BRIGHT! With solid colors and great accessories brights can be accomplished well. With a family, you've got to be careful to stay away from too many different patterns or photos can look very busy.
So what do you think of the Thomas family? Any suggestions for them?

Zoe Girl | Austin Family Photographer
I get excited at the thought of my siblings with families of their own. I love to think about our kids playing together and calling each other best friends as well as cousins. There's something so sweet about seeing generations develop within a family.
We got to see just that with this dear family. Because we've gotten to know the Hamilton crew with photos of Olivia in the last several months, we were thrilled to meet Mike's sister, Debra, and her family - Carlos and Zoe. They had flown in from the west coast to introduce their ten week old to her cousin, and though the day was overcast, the moods of this group were anything but. Seeing precious Zoe and Olivia be so well loved was so special.
Despite the distance between Texas and California, these two are destined to be buddies.
Aren't both of these families beautiful?
I can't get enough of those brown eyes
